From one sheet of 12x12 cardstock, I get two cards. I make my first cut at 8 1/2 and then cut that piece in half so I have two 8 1/2 x 6 pieces. The cut off piece, I keep close by just in case I want to use my nesties, stamps or punches for some detail.
I used to cut it to 11 and then in half again until I noticed that leaving it at 12, once cut and folded it was a better fit for the standard envelope. Cut at 11 it was a little short.
Lately for most of my cards I start of with a backing piece 4x5 3/4 as my first layer and build on it from there as I find having the card stock edge frames my card.
Seeing as I have the two card bases I will make a two card set and once I have decided on the materials and layout of one I will use the same materials on the other card and change the layout of the second.
Wonderful Friend Card 1
Wonderful Friend Card 2
With these two cards I changed the orientation of the nesties from landscape to portrait and then moved my feature from the top to the bottom.
