That photo is fantastic!! All the detail!
Don't know if I could get so close though.

I had a go with the bees on my lavender but not really happy with the results. Will have another play soon.

BeccyB. have a go with the bees (this works esp well for dragon flies) early in the morning. They are a bit slower then and hopefully a bit easier to capture with the camera. Easier too if there is very little breeze as well.

good luck and may the force Bee with you.

lol.

did you head over to the Digital Photography School via that macro link.

did you see those light straws.

this is my attempt.

Image

tripod.
ISO 400
f2.8
1/400
flash (speedlight)

a speedlight is the big flash unit that is attached to the top of the DSLR camera in the hot shoe (that metal bit at the top you've probably never noticed or wondered what the hell is that for)

go on, give it a go. I found the straws in a square pack in the $2 shop.

open the lid, but leave the straws in the pack. Lie them on the table in such a way so you can rest the camera on the table too and line it straight in front of them.

play with your macro setting in Point Shoot cameras and use your flash for a shot, and without for another.

DSLRs. Arpeture setting. f2.8 or the smallest f number your lens will go. alter the shutter speed until the needle is in the middle of the exposure/metering area. use flash. if its too bright, underexpose a bit as the flash will brighten it up. if the shutter speed gets too slow, bump up your ISO.

go for it.

:O)

gyps.

If you squared cropped it to remove the vast majority of the stem on the left, it would make a stronger shot. As well it would have the bee on the left third of the page for a more interesting look. and it gives it room to move into the shot. IFKWIM

good colour.

perfect.

this has also made the bee much larger in the shot and now the primary subject.

well done.
