Trisha. Congrats on your massive enthusiasm and lots of eye candy here. Photography is such a subjective thing, and what appeals to me, may not appeal to anyone else. So I hope that you can glean a hint or two from what I've critiqued for you and have a go with those tips in mind. Its taken me nearly an hour to respond to all of your images, so I hope you can soak it all up.

kindest regards.

Tiff
Thank you very much I so appreciate that you have taken an hour to help me with these and thank you for your advice and knowledge, I will take it on board and play again, I took the photos at about 7 in the morning so yes the webs in the grass were wet and in the shade. It is sometimes very hard to take photos in the harsh northern sunlight so I do try to take photos early in the morning or late in the afternoon to use the softer light. I have lots to think about and will play, play, play. Thanks again this is wonderful.

Trisha. You must have sooo motivated to get out there at 7am. good for you.

If the full sunlight seems to harsh, will the grass web be in the shade on the edge of sunlight? Meaning just before the actual sunlight touches it. Then if you have a helpful person hold a car window sunshade (those silver things that go in your front windscreen to block the light), to direct a bit of light onto the web.

In other words, try a reflector. Its a bit of mucking around and involving another person, but it will help tremendously.

Even a large piece of white poly foam will to the trick. Praps you could lean it up against something and then you wont need to ask anyone to assist you.

good luck and happy shooting.
tiff :)

I think I may just try this out now. We have a spider out front that has made it's home between the pillars of our pergola.

rippa Julie. does the web get dewy. If not, get a water spray bottle and give it a few squirts. wait for the spider to settle down (if there is one there of course) and go for it!!

No not dewy. Have had a try and snapped it and a flower out back. Was a bit hard as I had to hold the camera up to get the shot and I know I was shaking.
