Happy Friday Everyone...
I thought seeing as we have snuck in an extra Friday this month i'd give you another extra little fun technique to have a play with.
This technique looks amazing, and is one of the ones we used and learnt about at my Tim Holtz class.. Shattered Stains.
I've also got a little bit of info on using the sizzix movers and shapers dies, these are really cool, and oh so cute, little versions of some of Tim's dies.
To use these dies you need to use either one of the bigz movers and shapers dies, or the Magnetic Base plate.
The small magnetic dies fit inside the bigger Movers and Shapers dies.. These are the ones with the big open holes in them or the base plate, and you can then die cut with them as normal. If you place them inside on of the bigger mover and shapers dies, you will have a die cut cut out of your die cut like this.. very cool...
ok so on to the technique..
You'll need some distress stains, Distress Crackle paint in Rock Candy ,a sheet of thick chipboard and a die cutting machine and magnetic base plate, and a movers and shapers die and your heat gun.
Arrange your dies on your magnetic base plate, with your chipboard on top and place the tray in bewteen your two clear plates and run through your die cutting machine..
You will then have some cute little die cuts...
Next step is to then paint your die cuts in a medium thickness layer of rock candy distress crackle paint and let it dry... Distress crackle paint is a little different to the old style crackle paints, it doesn't need a coat of paint under it, or another layer of crackle activator painted over the top of it, just the one layer. The thicker the layer of crackle the bigger the cracks, the thinner the layer, the smaller and finer the cracks.
This is the hard part.. letting it dry.. If your anything like me, you really feel like getting your heat gun out at this point and drying it in a hurry, but please don't.. it bubbles and goes all yucky... Once it has started to dry and crack, then by all means heat away with your heat gun, to dry it, but not until it's started to dry and crack! The Rock Candy Distress Crackle is a clear paint, and it dries clear.
Once it's dry we can colour it with our chosen colours of distress stain. Apply your stains directly to the die cut, applying the colours in your desired areas...
Give then a small rub to work them into the cracks and your chipboard, and finish coloring with your desired stains..
When you finish colouring, your die cut piece should look like this..
Now it's time to pull out your heat gun, and dry your stains.. you'll know it's dry when you touch it and nothing comes off on your finger..
You'll then be left with one very cool shattered stain glass looking die cut...
I've added mine to a quick little tag, that is now sitting up on my desk, just to show you what it looks like on a finished project.
