Yay - They are finally here, the one thing I was most excited about and couldn't wait to get in my hands from winter Cha 2013 - Tim Holtz Distress Paints..
What makes them different from another acrylic paints??
They are more fluid than most acrylic paints, and therefore have a mixing ball inside. So don't forget to give them a good shake before you use them.
The second thing that sets them apart is the fact that once you have dried your distress paint it won't rewet again. This means that you can layer colours on top of each other. If you dry each layer before you put the next layer on top, the underneath layer will stay dry and they won't mix together and turn muddy.
But the one thing that I think is really exciting is the fact that the react with water like distress inks, which gives you beautiful variations and effects in the colours.
They come in a range of 24 colours - with a good supply of colours still available - they have been very popular.
Over the next few weeks I'll be showing you just how easy they are to use, and some of the great things you can do with them. But for this week I thought I'd show you something nice and easy.. how to alter your metal embilishments. This was one of the techniques that Tim Holtz showcased while demoing the paints at CHA.
The first step is to paint your metal embellishment with your chosen colour.
The next step is to dry your embellishment. I think in this instance using a heat gun works best. As you can keep an eye on the drying process. Though please do be careful when touching your heated metal embellishment - they get very hot!!
As the paint dries it turns from shiny to a more matt finish. You need to keep heating drying your paint until its nearly all dry, we just want a few little shiny pieces left.
After you have finished with your heat gun, please let your embellishment cool for a few seconds, remember it's hot. Then carefully rub your embellishment with a dry cloth. The areas that were still shiny will rub away. I know I sound like an old nag, but please be careful it still could be a little warm to the touch.
This will leave you with what looks like a old distressed, worn enamel look to your metal embelishment.
