I am going to attempt to load a scanned copy of an old photo taken in the late 70s, with a little Kodak Instamatic camera. If any one can tell me how I might be able to "fix" it or where I can find the information I would very much appreciate it. I had a little play with the photo program that came with my printer but it seems extremely time consuming and a bit haphazard, maybe I just need some education.

Well, firstly, Tiff is probably gonna have the answer for you but if it was me I would definitely make it black and white for starters , play with the contrast a bit and crop out a lot of that background. I have a lot of these photos late 70's early 80's which have gone this lovely orange tone. I'm wondering if there was something wrong with the processing around that time and it is a shame coz most of the ones I have ever tried to anything with without changing to B & W have been just as yuk as the original. The only other thing is scrap it the way it is......just be very careful what papers you use (don't use orange lol) .... some papers may make the photo look not too orang-y iykwim.

I have scrapped a few photos like this and they have turned out OK. I did what Deb suggested and make it B & W. I then cropped it and just adjusted the shadows and highlights a bit. This is just with freebie Picasa and it made a huge difference to the pics. Also don't print it too big - I normally only do these at 4 x 6 at the largest.

Nice photo Sis  I had several reprinted - from about three years before this one - and without me asking for it, they corrected the colour - so an expert might be an easy answer.

if you are on facebook, "The Photo Fixer" Can fix this, his restorations are fantastic and very well priced :) otherwise a bit of photoshop can fix the colouring a bit

Hi Trisha - if you like I can have a play with it? I like the sepia feel of old photos, and I think sometimes converting them directly to black and white can be a bit harsh on them, and you lose a bit of tone in the conversion.
I'd like to see how it'd look with a little less red, but still keeping the warmth of the original photo
Cheers,
Rita
