Three scrapping ladies at retreat book into a hotel room and the manager charges them $30.00. The price for the room should have been $25.00 so the manager sends the bellboy to the room with $5.00. On the way to the room the bellboy wonders how he can split the $5.00 between 3 ladies and decides to give them $1.00 each and pocket $2.00. So therefore the ladies have paid 3 x $9.00 and the bellboy pocketed $2.00. 3 x $9.00 = $27.00 add $2.00 = $29.00 where did the other $1.00 go???
This one hurts my head too because all my instincts tell me that there is no $1 but every time I try to type out an explanation as to why I get lost explaining it
I am going to try typing out an explanation again and simplify it a bit this time cause last night I just confused myself
The girls paid a total of $27 for the room - $30.00 less the $3 refund they received. This was made up of $25.00 to the hotel ($30.00 less the $5) and $2 to the bell boy, which he kept. There is no $1.00 difference anywhere, it is all just in the confusing wording and $2 should not be subtracted from the $30 as it was part of the $27 paid by the girls.
