Wonderful to meet a fellow shutter sister

In regards to your focal length question it's 21mm on my 17-40mmL Canon wide angle lens. I've used a .9 ND Graduated filter so I can correctly expose the foreground without blowing the sky. Other details for your interest are ISO 50. Shutter 5 seconds. F22. Tripod. Remote Trigger. Mirror lockup on.

Thanks for lovely comment on it.

Hey Trisha. Would love to give you some thoughts.

If you had the time prior to the photos being taken, I would have changed her top into something without a pattern as that is one of the first things that catch my eye and drag my attention away from your subject. And probably a more flattering colour for her. I usually ask clients to wear whatever top they like, but just be sure it's plain. And if its a family I'm seeing, for them all to wear the same colour tops. It looks so much more united in the final prints.

Another thing that is distracting are the buildings in the background. Can you check your file on your computer (right click on the image where you have filed it, properties, details. Scroll down and there should be the camera info. I bet you have a f stop of 8 or higher. The higher the number equals more of the picture in focus. I would love for you to try this again with an fstop of 5.6 or smaller (more background blur). If you have a point shoot camera try the portrait or macro setting to blur out the background which in turn makes your subject more important in the shot.

Your question of the coloured spots in the shot are the colours of sunshine (think of the colours of rainbow). All this need was a very slight adjustment of the angle of your camera and you can avoid these 'spots' but you can keep the 'sunflare' in the shot. If you moved the camera slightly to the left or you step to the right that should fix that. It's just a bit too much sun in the shot is all.

well done and keep going.

tiff :)

lol Ant. you might only need 30 seconds of it, but its a matter of being ready for it

It's winter time down here so seeing the sun at the time of late afternoon when I want it can be a bit tricky as well. And I need to be home for it lol. Busy chasing the kids around with their stuff lol.

have your camera out of the bag, at the door, ready to go so you can snatch and run if you need to.

t :)

this month has flown by with very little sun it seems. I did get some photos this morning of some dewy coriander flowers which actually did have some sunflare but hardly very interesting. I'll try again tomorrow but as a last resort I might have to select the best flower shot. I did try earlier in the month to get some shots of my husband but I won't embarass him by putting one of those terrible shots up. Thank goodness for digital - I'd never be game to take so many shots with my old film SLR.
